This book describes 10 real murder cases worked by the Crime Scene Unit of the DMPD Identification Section which the author was a member of for 30 years. It describes the work involved in processing a crime scene for evidence. This book shows what it is really like to be a Crime Scene Technician.At the end of the book there are color images from real murder scenes, and of some of the equipment used to process those scenes.

G.D. Gourd was born and raised on the East side of Des Moines, Iowa. After time in the U.S. Army he came back home and went to college. He graduated from DMACC in Ankeny Iowa with an AA degree in Criminalistics. He was hired by the Des Moines Police Department in 1979 as an Identification Technician. He has worked countless death investigations during his 30 years at DMPD. He is a professional photographer and was the Digital Darkroom Technician for the DMPD. The author spent eight months writing the book. He retired from DMPD January of 2010 after 30 years on the force.
